Getting A Foreign Pen Pal
I know my first pen friend from an organization called International Pen Friends. This organization preserve the tradition of letter writing. Nowadays, I rarely meet new pen pals in this way but through internet. Notwithstanding the tendency of meeting new friends through internet, I do suggest that International Pen Friends is a good platform for people who have no experience to write or receive snail mail letters.
When I had pen pals, I looked forward to receiving letters from them. The nicest thing of having pen pals is that you may receive some little gifts from them. I had a Norwegian pen pal who loved native American history, but he couldn’t get a book called the Ishi, In Two Words that he wanted. The book is about a Yahi man who was the only one to survive from a slaughter in his tribe.
If I had a pen pal from some exotic Islands such as Pitcairn Island, I would be exhilarated. I spend most of my time looking up the history and culture of Pitcairn Island and it really interests me. The most recent inhabitants over there are descendants of HMAV Bounty. I reckon there will be people who will share the same thoughts with me.
In the old days, people would prefer writing letters to each other and the world has undergone changes. People switch their communication mode to emails. Three years ago, there was a Yahoo! group about Pitcairn culture and history and I joined it with excitement. This was an opportunity for me to share my interest with people from other parts of the world.
Every once in a while, I meet some online pen pals who are living on Pitcairn Island. But, they do not show up very often as they are busy with their housework and marking handicrafts.
Yahoo! serves as a good platform for me to discuss Pitcairn history and culture with my pen pals. My pen pals and I have developed a strong bonding with each other despite the fact that I do not write to them very often. We share our thoughts on discussion board and we also write mails. Yahoo! group is good place for you to look for someone who share the same interest with you.
The website-Interpals also provides a good platform for us to meet new online pen pals. I knew my Japanese pen pal through this website and it is trustworthy. You can meet people around the globe.
How about Myspace and Facebook? Have you considered them as a way to meet new people? Some of you may aware of the safety problems of meeting new friends in such way. But I do recommend you to try it because you should grab every single chance to meet new people. You can take precaution by looking at someone’s profile before adding them as friends.
